I am Sentier Psychotherapy’s graduate level intern from September, 2016 to May of 2017. I am in my final year of St. Thomas/St. Catherine’s Clinical Social Work program, and will graduate this May (2017). I am taking new clients from September to March of this school year.
Adolescent clients are a favorite of mine. I enjoy working with adolescents because they force therapists to rethink the meaning of therapy and connection. They relate to therapists in a different way than adult clients. Some teens do not respond to typical therapy methods, but most respond well to authentic, respectful, and direct feedback. I work to provide therapy to teens in a way that works for them and helps them become an active part in their treatment.
I am becoming a therapist because I am especially interested helping individuals navigate through their world in order to live a happier, healthier life. I believe in an integrative approach to therapy. This means that all aspects of one’s life impact each other, which results in all areas of a client’s life being interrelated in the therapy room.
In my free time, I enjoy travel, nature, photography, and checking out new and interesting places within the Twin Cities. I am a huge family person and an avid animal lover.
Before pursuing my master’s degree, I attended Luther College for my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While at Luther, I played on the women’s basketball team and fulfilled one of my dreams of studying abroad in Australia. My previous clinical and research experience includes working with homeless and at-risk youth, crisis intervention, LGBTQ+ communities, and children and adolescents experiencing cognitive disabilities and autism spectrum disorders
